Have you ever held a dream in your hands? I had always thought it only happened in books or rom-coms or TV series with canned laughter. And then it happened to me!
Even the UPS guy whistled as he walked the box to my door. It was as if he knew what he was holding. As I scooted the box inside and slit the packing tape with scissors, my heart thumped in my ears. I pulled open the cardboard flaps, and there they were, nestled in packing paper—ten advance copies of Whistling Women and Crowing Hens. My book! With my name on it! EEEEeeeekkkk! I pulled out the top book, ran my fingers across the cover, carefully inspected the binding, and flipped through the pages. A surreal feeling came over me. I held eight years of hard work, vulnerable storytelling, and my dream-come-true in my hands.
Over the next several days and still today, I keep picking up this book. Some days, I can’t believe it. Other days I walk around the house just holding it. I’ve even started reading aloud to Olive and Bean, my cats.
I’ll share more about what I’ve learned through this process in a later blog. Right now I’m going to stay present, revel in my joy, and just soak up all I’m feeling while holding my book!
